Summer Guide 2023
General Information
Thank You! - Park Commissioner Craig Rakow The Dundee Township Park District board, staff, and community were fortunate to have a leader in Commissioner Craig Rakow for 42 years on the Board. He served with dignity, and the community was of his highest importance. Commissioner Rakow steps down in May from the elected position after first being elected in 1982. He has been instrumental in bringing the Park District its first recreation center in 1989, a second golf course in the early 1990s, many new parks on the community’s west side, and much more! Thank you, Craig, for your tireless commitment to serving your community! Capital Projects The Park District is pleased to provide many wonderful facilities and programs for the Dundee Township community. With this comes a 5-year capital improvement plan that addresses infrastructure needs, fleet and equipment replacement, and much more. The Board approved two projects in Fiscal Year ‘22/’23’, which will enhance the service level for our users. The Rakow Center locker rooms are being renovated and will be completed this summer. They were built in 1988 and have had little improvements made over the 35 years. The Randall Oaks Golf Course pump house was replaced over the winter. The new pump will provide thirty years of automated irrigation for the pristine golf course, continuing to make it one of the best manicured courses in the area. This project has been completed on time for the irrigation season. Message From the Executive Director
Grant Project Updates The Dundee Township Park District completed the Hickory Hill Park development in the Fall of 2022 and held a ribbon cutting ceremony. The Board and staff are excited to provide a beautiful park on the community’s east side for our Carpentersville and Barrington Hills residents. Stop by and see our newest park just east of Rte. 25 on Longmeadow Parkway. The small animal zoo building was bid out this spring and will see construction begin in the summer. We are hopeful that this new building addition at the Randall Oaks Zoo will be completed in 2023. This IDNR museum grant will provide $750,000 of State funding for the project and allow for an extended zoo season for our community. The new Fairhills Park development along Boncosky Road and Rte. 31 will begin construction in 2023, with an anticipated completion in the Spring of 2024. This is a Village of West Dundee owned project in which the Park District maintains the park and daily operations. The partnership will provide recreational amenities to the Fairhills and Sleepy Hollow communities. On behalf of the Park Board and staff, I wish you a great summer filled with family, friends, and plenty of recreation opportunities within the Dundee Township Park District!
